The American Dream of Juan Xia Lin interviewed by Phoo Han Oo

The American Dream

I interviewed the Juan Xia Lin who is the Chinese immigrants. And she had come to the Untied States around the 1988. During the interview, she explained about her life in China. And she indicated that how she experienced difficult life in her own country and why she decided to come to the Unite States. She also mentioned the different experiences about living in the Untied States and China. Besides, the reasons why she prefers to live in the America compare to her own country.

There are many immigrants came from difference places to the United States from the 19th century to until today. Those immigrants include Irish, German, Chinese and so on. Among the many immigrants, I am going to concentrate on Irish and Chinese immigrants. Irish immigrants came to the Untied States in the 1729 because they were trying to flee from the poverty, depression and the Great Famine from their country. They were working in the different filed such as domestic-works, work in the American’s railroad and dug canals.
For the previous Chinese immigrants, they came to the United States around the 1849. They came to the Untied States due to the Opium War of 1839-1842 and other different reasons. They also worked in the railroad as the Irish immigrants. Besides, they work in the gold mining, factory works and agricultural field. Both Irish and Chinese immigrant perceived the discrimination from the American due to culture differences, religious differences and ethnicity differences. Moreover, they profound effect on the American’s growing industry.
Interviewing the Juan Xia Lin is matter to me. It is due to the fact that I am going to use this interview as primary source for my project. This interview is going to support my project when I compare and contrast with the previous Chinese immigrants and Irish immigrants in the United States.
